Women’s History Month in NYC

Women have been fighting for progress and change for centuries and this year is no exception! Celebrate the successes that woman have shared this month for Women’s History Month. Check out some of the events and activities taking place near The Octagon this month to see how you can celebrate and further the cause of women progress.


The Future is Female Film Showcase – If you love cinema and the arts, you should check out “The Future is Female” film showcase taking place at Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg, this month.  Celebrating Women’s History Month, each film featured is directed by women and the film’s stories tell tales of women conquering their challenges with a sci-fi twist. Volunteer with Women in Need – A non-profit since 1983, Women in Need works to get homeless NYC families back on their feet by providing transitional housing skills. Now able to accommodate over, 800 families at a time, the organization also teaches life skills and provides childcare. Volunteers can assist residents by reviewing resumes and helping with job applications, or work with a group to organize after school activities. Nasty Women of the Metropolitan Museum – From now until mid-July, the Met is is offering an exhibit showcasing extraordinary women throughout history. On this two-hour tour, learn about the most powerful female pharaoh of Egypt, the first official Roman empress, and a female scientist in Revolutionary France.
