A Taste of Spring in NYC


With all the snow we’ve been getting on Roosevelt island, it’s hard to believe that the official start of spring is just a few days away! If you’re tired of the slow and are craving a glimpse into spring – we have you covered. This month near The Octagon, there are plenty of spring-themed events that will have you ready for the new season.


The Orchid Show – The spring season is synonymous with blooming flowers. If you’re ready to get a glimpse into spring, consider checking out the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden. Now in it’s 16th year, The Orchid Show showcases thousands of dramatically displayed orchids in the beautiful Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. The show will run from Sunday, March 3 to Sunday, April 22.


The Macy’s Flower Show – This month, New Yorker’s and tourists alike flock to the iconic department store to view jaw-dropping arrangements at Macy’s Flower Show. Celebrating it’s 44th annual installment of the show, this year’s theme is “Once Upon a Springtime”. Guests can expect to jaw-dropping displays of flowers with different play’s on fairy tale and storybook scenes. If you’d like to see the displays, be sure to stop by Macy’s Herald Square from March 25th to April 8th.


Seal and Bird Watching Cruise – Head out of Roosevelt island to Jacob Riis Park in Rockaway, Queens for a spring wildlife excursion. From March 24th to April 28th, American Princess Cruises is offering seal and bird watching tours, every Saturday from 12pm- 2pm. If interested, get your tickets at the link below. The wildlife that can be seen are only passing through the greater NY metro area for a limited time this spring.
