Belmont Stakes in NYC

horse racing

This weekend, Saturday June 9th, New York City hosts the 150th Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, Queens. As the last race of the Triple Crown series, this year’s race could be a historical one as the horse Justify is still in the running to win the Triple Crown title.  Revel in the excitement of the race by attending live, or watching at a live viewing party in the city!

The Belmont Stakes – The Belmont Stakes are hosted at Belmont Park in Queens, only a 30-minute drive from The Octagon. However, if you choose to drive, be prepared for traffic and difficulty finding parking. Taking the train may be your best option, as LIRR offers direct service to Belmont Park, or you can take the F or E train subway lines with connecting bus routes. General admission tickets are $25, though it is recommended to purchase tickets prior to the event date. Once in the park, enjoy your time by placing wagers, enjoying some food and drinks, and taking in the excitement of the race with friends!

Meadowlands Simulcast – If you like the idea of watching the race at the track but don’t feel like dealing with the crowds, consider going to the Belmont Stakes Simulcast at the Meadowlands Racetrack. Watch the race at the Victory Sports Bar, with 11 20-by-12 foot TVs. Stick around afterwards to sample burgers from the area’s best food trucks for the 3rd annual Burger Battle.

Tempest Bar– If you don’t feel like traveling too far to watch the race, head over to Tempest Bar in Midtown West to watch the race. Enjoy specials on New York-themed cocktails, including the Belmont jewel, wings and other apps while watching the race that’s broadcasted on every TV in the bar!
