With Father’s Day coming up on Sunday, June 17th, it’s the perfect time to start planning what you’ll do with Dad on his special day. If your Father will be in the local Roosevelt Island area, consider checking out some of the activities taking place below. From food events, to beer halls and music exhibitions, there’s something happening near the Octagon that’s perfect for Father’s Day.

Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden – Head across the river into Astoria to take Dad to one of the best beer gardens in the city! Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden is an authentic Czech beer hall that offer plenty of outdoor picnic tables, where you can enjoy the beautiful weather while sipping on some brews. Order some platters of sausage and pretzels and sample their European and domestic beer lineup.

Smorgasburg – If your Dad is a foodie, you have to take him to Smorgasburg to experience one of the largest recurring food festivals in the country! A favorite among locals and tourists, Smorgasburg feature nearly 100 vendors selling delicious and cheap bites; anything from buttermilk fried chicken, to ramen, to homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches! The festival is hosted every Saturday and Sunday from 11am – 6pm. On Saturdays, the festival is hosted in Williamburg’s East River Park, and on Sundays at Prospect Park in Breeze Hill.

Kayaking on the Hudson– If your Dad is the outdoorsy type, then he’ll love to spend some time out on the Hudson river on Father’s Day. Head over to Hudson River Park to take your Dad out kayaking. After a brief lesson from an instructor, you’ll be free to roam the river for 20-minute sessions at a time.
