Tis the Season for Charity

Donation Box Full Of Groceries On Table

Even though Thanksgiving may be a few weeks away, it’s not to early to get involved and give back this holiday season. If you’d like to participate in charitable giving and volunteer work this month, there are plenty of opportunities in the Roosevelt Island area. Learn more about some of the charitable activities taking place near The Octagon below.

FeedingNYC – Give back this holiday season by partnering with FeedingNYC to help pack and hand deliver Thanksgiving meals to less fortunate New Yorkers. Since 2001, FeedingNYC has helped provide Thanksgiving meals to families in shelters in partnership with Women in Need, Jewish Federation, Catholic Charities, City Harvest and more. If you’d like to donate to the cause, a single $35 donation will provide a full Thanksgiving meal for a family and guests. If you’d like to take action and volunteer, join the crew in assembly and delivery of the Thanksgiving care packages. Learn more at the link below.

New York Cares Annual Coat Drive – For the last 30 years, New York Cares has collected over 1.8 million winter coats for less fortunate. With the cold winter months still ahead, it’s more important now than ever to take part in the cause to ensure that all new Yorkers are equipped to face the cold winter temperatures. To participate in the event, consider planning your own coat collection drive, or purchase a new coat to donate to the cause. Check out the link below to see the various coat drop off locations across the city.

CityMeals on Wheels – This holiday season, partner with CityMeals on Wheels to help ensure that elderly New Yorkers are getting the proper nourishment they need. With the help of volunteers and donations CityMeals on Wheels provides over 2 million meals to 18,000 elderly New Yorkers each year. For the holiday season, the organization is seeking volunteers to deliver meals in the New York City boroughs. Check out the link below to see how you can get involved.
