Homemade Sliced Turkey Breast for Thanksgiving Dinner

The holiday season is upon us on Roosevelt Island with Thanksgiving only days away! If you will be staying local near the Octagon for the holiday, consider checking out one of the many activities taking place in the area (in between filling up on delicious Thanksgiving food of course)!

Friendsgiving on Thanksgiving Eve –If you’d rather avoid the crowds on Thanksgiving Eve, consider hosting Friendsgiving with your group! If you’d rather not cook for the whole crowd, consider getting Thanksgiving catering from Butterfield Market. Located on the Upper East Side on Lexington Avenue, Butterfield offers fresh roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and all of your other favorite holiday side dishes. Check out their menu at the link below.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade– Celebrating it’s 92nd year, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade returns to the streets of New York to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday! Although you can watch it on TV like the rest of America, you also have the option to see it live in-person being so close to the action. The parade will kick off at 9am at 77th St and Central Park West and will make its way down to 34th Street in Herald Square. Arrive early to secure your place along the sidewalk to view performances by John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Bazzi, Diana Ross and Family, as well as some Broadway hits by Anika Noni Rose (from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog) and Ashley Tisdale.

New York City Turkey Trot – Burn off some of your Thanksgiving meal (and Friday’s leftovers) at the annual New York City Turkey Trot, which takes place every year on Roosevelt island! This year the race will take place Saturday, November 24th and you have the choice to participate in the 15K run, or 5K run/walk. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Young Survival Coalition, a premier organization dedicated to the critical issues faced by young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer.
