Holiday Activities in New York

NEW YORK-DEC 5: Rockefeller Center all decorated surrounding the newly lit Christmas tree on December 5, 2013.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and there’s no place better than New York during the holidays! Even though the holidays are still a few weeks away, the greater Roosevelt Island area is gearing up for the holiday festivities. Check out the events below that are taking place near The Octagon.

Rockefeller Center – This holiday season, be a tourist in your own city to see the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. This year’s tree is a 72-foot tall, 12-ton Norway Spruce that hails from Wallkill, New York. To avoid the holiday crowds, pay a visit after dusk on a weeknight to see the tree light up Rockefeller Center. While there, watch the ice skaters below, and maybe even go for an ice skating session yourself!

Radio City Christmas Spectacular – You’re never too old to see a production of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular! A yearly tradition since the show’s inception in 1933, this classic Christmas show showcases tap dancers, a flying Santa Claus, and of course, the Rockettes! Productions of the show are running now through January 1, 2019. Get your tickets now at the link below.

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights – This holiday season you won’t want to miss the incredible Christmas Lights display of Dyker Heights! Head into Dyker Heights in Brooklyn from 11th to 13th Avenues from 83rd to 86th to see the festive Christmas light displays. To see the lights in full display, it’s best to head over between dusk and 9pm. Make your trip before New Year’s Eve, as many of the home owners and professional decorators remove their displays in the new year!
