Just because it’s cold outside, doesn’t mean there aren’t events and activities taking place near Roosevelt Island! Check out some of the events taking place this month near the Octagon.

Winter Jazzfest – Winter Jazzfest returns again to bring jazz veterans and up-and-comers alike to the streets of New York. This year, Jazzfest runs from Friday, January 4 – Saturday, January 12. More than 100 groups will perform at this year’s festival, including performances by Meshell Ndegeocelllo, Gary Bartz, Pharoah Sanders, Billy Hart and the trip The Bad Plus. Although these individual performances will be taking place throughout the event, the showcase of the festival is the jazz marathon. A two-day marathon pass is $90 – $105, or $50- $60 per day if brought separately. Tickets for individual shows can also be purchased.

Harry Potter: A History of Magic – Calling all Harry Potter fans! The New York Historical Society is hosting a limited-time exhibition on the world’s most-beloved magical series. From January 22 – January 26, the New York Historical Society is displaying artifacts from the British Library in addition to J.K Rowling’s own archives. You’ll learn about the history of dragons, griffins, and other elements from the world of Harry Potter. For more information, visit the link below.

Best of Brooklyn Food and Beer Festival – Put your New Year’s resolutions aside for a day and enjoy all the delicious food and drink that the Best of Brooklyn Food and Beer Festival has to offer! This event, now in it’s third year, features eats from over 20 local chefs, plus unlimited beer tastings from brewhouses like Sixpoint Brewery, Coney Island Brewing, Kombrewcha and more! The event will take place Saturday, January 26 at Industry City from 11:00am – 9:00pm. Tickets start at $39 dollars.
