The weather is finally starting to warm up and it’s  time to get outdoors after a long winter! Step outside your Octagon apartment to take part in some of the events happening on Roosevelt Island and the local area to celebrate springtime and the flowers that are in bloom.

Macy’s Flower Show – It’s not too late to see the Macy’s Flower Show, taking place now through Sunday, April 7. The subject for this year’s installment at Macy’s Herald Square is Journey to Paradisios, with flower arrangements designed to show off the mysteries of outer space. The event is free, so next time you’re walking through Midtown, stop inside to see flowers in arrangements of stars, rockets, aliens and much more space-themed wonders.

Roosevelt Island Cherry Blossom Festival – You don’t have to travel very far to take part in Roosevelt Island’s own cherry blossom festival! On Saturday, April 13 from 11am – 5pm, Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park is hosting the celebration with an ode to Japanese culture. A traditional tea ceremony will kick off the celebration at 11am, followed by traditional and modern Japanese dance performances and a Japanese Cultural Fair.

Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden – The orchids are in bloom at the New York Botanical Garden! Now through April 28, pay a visit to the gardens to see thousands of orchids of different colors, sizes and shapes. Visit during the day, or stop by at night for Orchid Evenings during the exhibit, which features gorgeous displays of light to bring out the beauty of the orchids. Orchid Evenings feature passed cocktails and live entertainment. Visit the site below for more information.
