Celebrate Earth Day in the city on Monday, April 22nd and take part in some of the best events happening near Roosevelt Island this month. From Earth Day festivals, to 5ks, to volunteer activities, check out the events taking place near The Octagon below.


Earth Day 5K Green Tour 2018 – On Monday, April 22 from 9:00am – 12:00pm, take a 5K walking tour to green sites around the city and learn how to live more sustainable life. This year sites include a river education lab right off the Hudson River, a zero-waste office, a state-of-the-art NYC Department of Sanitation facility and a rooftop farm. Earth Day 2019 at Union Square – This annual Earth Day event sponsored by Earth Day Initiative returns to Union Square on Tuesday, April 23. This outdoor event features ore than 70 organizations, environmental non-profits and green businesses promoting methods to live a more sustainable, eco-friendly life. The event features activities for children and live performances.


Volunteer with One Tree Planted – If you’d like to take on an active role in making a difference for Earth Day, consider volunteering with One Tree Planted in Manhattan on Monday, April 22 from 9:00am – 12:00pm. Volunteers are the event will learn how to aerate, cultivate, mulch and identify street trees, and will learn about the important roles street trees play in the New York City ecosystem.
