How to Get There

Whether by car, subway, bike, or tram, Roosevelt Island is a quick commute from any of New York City’s five boroughs.

Car

Take the Roosevelt Island Bridge from 36th Avenue in Queens. Go down the ramp to Roosevelt Island and at the stop sign turn right (north) on Main Street. You will see The Octagon on your left in 1/3 miles.

Subway

Take the F train to the Roosevelt Island stop. Head north via the Red Bus (the bus stop is in front of the subway station and the cost is 25 cents) until it turns around at The Octagon. Find out when the Next Bus will be at the Subway or Octagon.

Weekend Express Shuttle Bus

To augment the Red Bus service, The Octagon runs a free Express Shuttle Bus on weekends to and from the Subway: Saturdays 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Tram

Roosevelt Island’s state-of-the-art Aerial Tramway provides visitors and residents with a 4-minute ride across the river from Roosevelt Island to East 60th Street and vice versa. Offering stunning views and approximately 115 trips per day, the Tram is integrated into New York City Transit’s MetroCard system (a mere $2.25 each way, $4.50 roundtrip).
